Here are a few recent acquisitions for this thread. Z.D.S., Treas. (It looks like Delaware County, but I'm stumped on the state.) Bank of Pittsburgh Unknown (H.B.?) L. Von Hoffman & Co. (Thanks to Dan's website for the ID!) A CDV with the cancel of A.N. Stauffer of Mt. Pleasant, PA (per Bruce Baryla's CD). Finally, a check with R5c cancelled by E.J. Brown & Co. (Again, thanks to Dan) |

Excellent, Jim. Thanks! I guess maybe IO was an abbreviation for Iowa at one time. That's clearly what it is. |

I will comment on three of the five stamps. The first is the cancel of S. R. Van Duzer, a wholesale commercial agent for a number of the private die users. The first of the battleships is Emerson Drug Company, which marketed Bromo-Seltzer for many years. The second battleship is from James Wyeth and Brother. |

The L&K cancel is Lanman & Kemp, a large New York perfume company that issued private die stamps. There are also a number of different RN's used on Lanman & Kemp checks. |

The F.E.C. (Frank E Clark) match stamp is one of several that used the same basic design. These include Brockett & Newton, F.P. Newton, and the Clark Match Co., and are known as the Woodbridge Match Group. Nice to find one with all the perfs, these were frequently applied by affixing machines and are often cut on one or two vertical sides. |

Unusual canx on a R32c. I actually have two copies, with the second copy being very faint. Handy & Hoadley, New York. The following link mentions them and they seemed to have something to do with shipping, or had something shipped to them. The shipment mentioned in the newpaper "cleared" (I assume customs?) on 29 April 1863. http://www.nytimes.com/1863/04/30/n...ligence.html |

Tis why it stood out! I have several R32s on a manila stock page and two of them stood out and demanded I take a second look!
This is the better of the two copies. |

Need help with this cancel. Acquired the stamp for the double line on the left. However I thought it was interesting that it was cancelled in Toronto. The only Toronto listed in the U.S. is in Ohio. I can't find any information on C.J. Campbell. Does anyone have any information? |
