I've been accumulating stamps for a few years now. Auction, flea markets, garage sales etc. I've been lucky to find some moderately nice things without spending a load of money. But... It's becoming overwhelming! I'm beginning to get to much un-cataloged stuff. And, as some here may have noticed, I'm not very good at it.

So, I've decided to concentrate on Zeppelin covers. I've picked up a few nice ones lately. USS Los Angeles from Bermuda, some LZ127 Graf Zeppeling, some first flights too. It's a fascinating area that is not overwhelmingly complicated and not grossly expensive, except for the U.S. Zeps on covers. I really like covers in general, so this isn't a stretch.
Anyway, here are my two latest additions. Now I'm going to think about the best way to mount/display them.

Stampcrow, if you do not already have them, the Zeppelin Post Katalog by Sieger is the very best, but is in German. Next best is the Frost catalog. You may also consider joining the Zeppelin study group and another good site is http://www.airships.net/

I am no longer active in collecting Zeppelin issues but I still belong to the study group because they do have very nice quarterly magazines.

good luck in your collecting!

boomer, thanks for the link. I'll be looking for the Frost catalog.
One thing I've noticed with the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin first Atlantic crossing, the New York received postmark is much more common than the Lakehurst NJ. Was there actually mail postmarked at Lakehurst?

Oh no! The parliament of rooks suggests that you're an errant corvid. The beauty is that you don't have to be very good at this. I always enjoy your posts, which ask similar questions to those that come into my head. And beware of the slippery slope from Zeppelins to an odd interest in the 3rd Reich, haunting auctions in search of WWII cap badges ...

Regards.

Geoff

Geoff...Ha, you have me at a disadvantage sir. I do not know what an errant corvid is. LOL

The Zeppelin allure is already taking hold. The philatelic angle of course is obvious, and fun. There is also aeronautic, political and social history with these great, elegant beasts.

I don't know if this appeals to you or not:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141566909301

It was carried on a Zepp, but the franking is ordinary US airmail stamps for the period. It appeals to me for that reason, though; I collect US airmails, and while I'm usually watching for Lindbergh flown covers with nice US airmail postage and clean cancellations, I could see this in my collection of early airmail flight covers.

But I've recently started a focused collection niche of my own (WW II airmail FDC's on patriotic covers) and some of these get pricey so I'll probably pass on collecting any covers like this Zepp flown one for now.

blcjr, that's a good looking cover. A lot of covers with multiple stamps get messy looking. That one is clean looking.

Couple reasons why I wont go after that cover. I have an auction to attend this weekend, so am hording my disposable cash.
The other is, I was planning on staying away from Hindenburg covers. Was hoping to stick with USS Las Angeles and Graf Zeppelins.
