For the past few weeks I've been checking randomly how many
members are online here on SCF
compared to the one that claims it is the

World's No#1 place to discuss STAMP COLLECTING and PHILATELY!

And found that SCF frequently has more members online than
Stampboards.com.
That definitely was not the case about four ago when I first
registered here on Stamp Community Family forum.

For example I took a screenshot of SB's main page yesterday,
Sydney Australia time Sunday February 8, 2015 5:05 pm

And one today of SCF at 5:15 pm EST (14 hour time difference)

This ratio in Stamp Community Forum'S favour is not always
so great but it is so more often than not.

I just want to add this is not an official survey or whatever
but what I have noticed now for some time.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that Australia is now in summer
season compared to the miserable winter we have had in the Eastern part of North America
(where the majority of members live I believe).
Like who wants to spend time poring over stamps when you could
enjoy the sun? Heh I'm not knocking you guys/gals from California
or New Mexico but......

I'm not knocking Stampboards since they have a lot of knowledgeable
members and I have found a lot of useful information on there
over the years.

But we have so many experts here on SCF such as Bill Weiss,
gportch of the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation,
Galeoptix/Rein, Robin Harris, Unitrade editor and so many others.
Plus we are privileged to have watermark in our midst.
Like how many stamp forums have a guy who sold a stamp
for 250K after picking it up for what was it $25 bucks?

All I can say this board is getting better and better.

Only I wish we would attract more members from Europe and Asia
so there would be more variety.

We are Number 1

Wert, my wife says I'm on the computer all the time
but I think you're on about 25 hours daily between here and the
coin forum.

Wait till I join you on the Coin Forum.

Yes I know. I just cleared the snow off my driveway so
I can get the car out.

I just wanted to emphasize how good this forum really is.
Why do you have a problem with that?

Maybe do a screen shot during their winter done under for a better comparison also.

Neat!

It doesn't really make a difference bexause we all enjoy appreciating beauty in a one way or another. There are many things and ways in life to appreciate and enjoy appreciating and stamps and good company are two of them.

Horses for courses, Lithograving.

If I ever had any questions about North American issues (and your list of experts seems to consist almost entirely of North American experts) I would certainly come here. But if I had any questions about British Commonwealth issues, I wouldn't waste my time here. (I've just finished reading the Indian States thread there: 12,186 posts and 345,981 views. And that for a thread on the Indian States, mark you.)

tonymacg, I agree with you totally.

I was not denigrating Stampboards whatsoever but only
stating what I had observed.

As a matter of fact over the years I've peeked into your Uglies
thread and actually enjoyed it even though I don't collect those stamps at all.

The geek/analytics person within me thinks this is comparing apples to oranges. StampBoards states it's counting user activity within last 10 minutes; SCF states nothing (though if it is based on default IIS session timeouts, then it's 20 minutes).

But the more activity and interesting new posts on ANY stamp related site, the better from collector perspective ;)

The major difference is that the other forum takes a perverse pleasure in chasing off newcomers, while they are welcomed here (and thankfully we have no constant spamming of threads by the admin trying to flog something )

Thank you Litho for posting.

I don't visit many boards, but there do seem to be more people here most of the time. I'm not sure what it means and I intend no disrepect for the other boards -- as I know you didn't either.

I don't know why Glenn was so crabby about it, but I won't argue with him over numbers.

But if anyone is spoiling for a fight, I WILL argue about the QUALITY of the content here. This place is an amazing resource. I've been here a few years now and I don't think I've ever seen a question go unanswered. And to me, that is the most impressive thing.

Kirk

As time passes, I find myself spending less and less time on other forums and more and more on this one. SCF, while being both friendly and informative, has way less of the elitism, clique-iness, and petty nonsense found on most of the other message boards.

I haven't been on the forum "down under" in a long time. To be honest, even if the admin wasn't a total @ss, I still wouldn't go there. I hate the way the forums is organized. And when I made a comment about country specific forums, the backlash was rather overwhelming.

I'll stay right here where it's comfy, cozy and the people are nice.
