It maybe that someone just didn't pay their bill on time. I had it happen a couple of times on unrelated sites and a few days later the website returned without explanation. |

Godaddy is still holding the page in the hope they will pay their bill. They always put up the notice, "This Web page is parked for FREE," for a grace period and then auction it off. |

Maybe if GoDaddy didn't spend so much on stupid Super Bowl adds they would be better off. |

Fortunately the internet does have a wayback machine.
EDIT: my link didn't work, but just Google waybackmachine then use it to search for websites from days gone by. You'll see a calendar with days each particular site was archived. I usually just click the most recent saved date. |

More than likely it's a brand new round of cease and desist orders issued by Amos Publications... |

That doesn't look like the result of a takedown order. Amos doesn't have that sort of pull.
And yes, 1847usa did incorporate Scott numbers at the bottoms of each page. I thought a handful of years back permission was granted for that use. Could be misremembering. |

I suggest you use the "Wayback Machine" to grab all the content you can (perhaps using Anthony's tool):

Edited by Staff - You're going to have the paste the link because the wayback machine has astupid link structure.

Anthony, I would suggest you visit Keijo's blog ( Stampcollectingblog.com ). He knows what he's talking about as far as costs are concerned. Those of us who benefit from sites hosted by generous people like Keijo ought to listen to them when they describe the challanges they face in keeping their sites going, rather than minimize their challenges. If Keijo says HTTrack is evil, I, for one, respect his assessment. |

They most certainly do...
I don't dispute that Amos has some pull in trying to protect that which it claims to have rights to. I don't believe Amos can exercise that pull to have the site's domain listed for sale by godaddy. Pretty sure that's not how it works. There is apparently at least one member here who has some backroom knowledge, so we'll see how it plays out. |

This has all the earmarks of someone forgetting to renew their domain name. After a 30-60 day window anyone can jump in and snag it. That can be separate from monthly/annual hosting costs.
This can also happen if the website owner becomes ill or deceased and there is no plan in place to provide for the ongoing site costs. |
