I am pleased to inform everyone that I finally heard from Bob Allen today, for which I think we can thank Jenifer for passing onto Bob the fact that the site is being discussed on the SCF. I think that going forward there will now be talks between Bob and the prospective party who may take over the site. I will update this thread as I am able, but Bob's message to me was encouraging.........

I am also very pleased that there are folks here willing to help if necessary, to keep the site going. That is also very encouraging in the event the talks don't bear fruit.

Folks,
I am happy to announce that the 1847usa web site is back online. You can access it at http://www.stampsmarter.com/1847usa/index.htm

Bob Allen, the original owner, has turned the site over to Stamp Smarter and we are pleased to be able to offer this great educational site to hobbyists. Currently we have left the site exactly like it was when Bob was maintaining it. Folks are familiar with the design/layout and we want everyone to feel comfortable with it. In the future, new additions and some updates are planned to keep the site current.

If anyone would like to assist with the administration/maintenance of this site please contact me. We can also use some small donations that will go towards the hosting fees. You can use the PayPal Donate button on the Stamp Smarter 'Contact Us' page if you want to contribute to offsetting some of the hosting costs.

We are working with Amos to see if we can get a contract in place to use the Scott numbers. Hopefully they will allow this educational, non-commercial site free use but we are prepared to removed them if required to do so.

Please also note that the 'search' feature does not currently work properly. It uses Google search and this still 'points' to the old site paths. We are looking into what it will take to fix this.

We are looking forward to providing access to this great site for decades to come. Again, if anyone is interested in helping with this site, please contact me. We need writers, updaters, backup administrators, and could use some financial help with the hosting costs. If anyone sees any broken links or other things that need fixing, please let me know.

And finally a big 'thank you' should be extended to Bob Allen for providing the original site files and to Bill Weiss for all his help in making it happen.
Don

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

Good job Don - I am amazed at what Bob has created and obviously put A LOT of work into. I've been very busy lately but let me know if you need any design help with this endeavor. I would guess that Google uses it's own indexing for it's search. If that's the case, I would imagine it will eventually heal itself.
