Wert,

In Scott just below B296/B297 is a reference to look at Germany Scott 582 and 583. I believe these are the stamps you have. (March 2nd 1948). (50 deep blue & 84 Green).

Hobsun

Update: It is worth noting that these are valued at $1.50 (#582) and $2.25 (583)in used condition vs $0.25 in mint condition. So this might explain the cancel even though they remain gummed.

People collect differently in Germany. A favor cancel that is MNH can be very collectible, but if it is hinged on full gum, that is not at all desirable. If you buy German collections, sometimes you will find pairs, with one stamp being MNH and the other having a SOTN favor cancel.

That and Germans are much more particular about condition and quality than the typical American collector. Germans are even more obsessed with NH, for example, to the point where hinged material usually only sells at 10-20% of the NH price and is often even worth less than used stamps.

These stamps bring back memories. I don't collect Germany although I have most of the WWII era stamps but these were among the first stamps I had in my collection as a kid. Thanks for showing them.
