For fun I picked up this "quantity over quality" lot of classic Germany from nystamps on ebay, in order to look for SOTN cancels and perhaps do some flyspecking per Michel.

So for giggles, let's have a contest: Based upon the pictures below, how many total stamps do you think are in the lot? A few things to keep in mind:

1. Some of the pictures overlap, i.e., the same glassines may appear in more than one photo.

2. Information written on glassines may or may not be accurate.

I'm still in the process of totalling up the count; might be a few days.

One guess per person. The person who has the closest number to the actual count by 6PM central time on Sunday, March 22, will have their choice of the following postpaid (both U.S. and international):

1. One of the U.S. revenue packets I use in my donation giveaway

2. A selection of 100 or so random and sundry stamps from this German lot

Good luck!

I would normally guess a Gazillion, but this time I'll go with 73,179 (assuming you throw away a few damaged stamps). Fun, fun, fun!

The Khoi people in Southern Africa have one of the most primitive counting systems known to man. They only have words for 'one', 'two', and 'many'.
Using the Koisian system, I guess the number of stamps to be "many" in the certainty that it is an accurate assessment.

That certainly fits the definition of a lot. 3s are lucky, so my guess is 13,333.
