floortrader, to me the "first" stamp and the "left" stamp are the same stamp. In other words, the first stamp I see is on the left, so I can't tell which one is the forgery. Am I missing something?

RUSTYC----There are several areas that show differences .
The "C" in centimes is in a different font .
The "s" in centimes is larger in the fake than the other lettering .
The checkerboard background on the fake is blotchy and ill defined with dark spots .
On the fake there is shading under the scroll of the wording of centimes.

I do have to say this is the better of the two fakes that I posted on this website . The one here also shows much more detail than the other scans on the internet .In reading ALBUM WEEDS ,his two copies of fakes are completely different .

Thanks. So it looks like the forgery is the right stamp, not the left stamp. Correct?

Please don't shoot yourself! Hahaha. Seriously, as an 1840-1940 WW collector, I have enjoyed and learned from your numerous great posts illustrating forgeries.

Rusty, I assume you are correct.

"the first stamp is real and the left stamp is a excellent forgery" both refer to the same stamp. I assume he meant to say the RIGHT stamp is an excellent forgery.

Speaking of excellent forgeries, I read all about Jean de Sperati last night (in a publication by PF on expertizing stamps). If you are not familiar with Sperati forgeries, this guy was brilliant. You really do need to be an expert to detect his early work ...
