Hi guys...Used my software to enhance the watermark on the back of this Newfoundland stamp for an example how to better see watermarks..Crud, but it works.

That's clever Robert!
Curious - was this method used because neither liquid or signoscope/light gave a proper identification - or was the intention only to make a scan?

I'm struggling sometimes to identify some wmk's, so I am getting hopeful your method could be a last resort...

Try it with US stamps, you will see it's not that simple

Hi guys...The software I use I have already posted on other threads but here it is again..The link below is for windows but was designed for Linux which I use..Sorry, no Mac download.
It does a lot of other things you will like.

It is called SHOTWELL VIEWER...and its FREE

Robert: A very good view of the watermark. It makes sense to use the scanner as a watermark detector because of the possibility of using contrast or negative settings on the image or light. Is such a program possible?

Well jogil...You can use a scanner to almst achieve what designated software can do, but if you want a front end scanner software program...May I suggest "XSANE"..It is FREE to download for you windows users (sorry Mac people it was designed for Linux )..Link below.
