But if you start out collecting one pole and then switch to the other, then would that make you Trans-Polar?

The Nuclear-powered icebreaker Sibir on a high-latitude expedition. This stamp is great because it's got people doing science, a boat, a helicopter, a map with route, and plenty of ice.



The ship was the 2nd such-named Soviet icebreaker, in service from 1977 to 1992.



A new Sibir is scheduled to enter service in 2020. Here it is under construction.




Interestingly, the first Sibir (1938-1973) was first named I. Stalin but that changed shortly after the death of Stalin, the same fate as pretty much anything named after the not-so-dearly beloved Papa Joe.

A/ Maybe a couple dozen or so? My index lists 21 of them, but there are bound to be more with the name and no likeness, such as the 1940 stamp pictured above. I bet Alexey would know.

For example, in Hungary, the Arpad bridge was first named after Stalin




and a rare plot on stamped card of 1954: a mausoleum on Red Square with the names of Lenin and Stalin. In 1961, the name of Stalin was already removed
