Another philatelic use of the Special Delivery envelop:

It was delivered (flown, I presume) to KC and has two KC backstamps. No additional postage was required as the airmail and special delivery rates were covered by the full pane required by the POD. While collectors treated this as an FDC, the cancel does not say "First Day Cover" because the POD considered this a reissue of the 1941 6 cent Transport airmail stamp (C25). But the hand cancel is unique for this issue, as FDC's with just a single stamp will have a normal machine cancel.

Do we know who created/designed this border?

Nice cover! That looks like a photo of a Lockheed Lodestar in the cachet. I'd like to have one like it for my Aircraft on Covers collection.

I don't know who designed the special delivery cover border, but it is similar in style to the half-circle border in traditional red, white & blue colors. The reverse of a half-circle border cover is illustrated below. Note that it has a registered trade mark, but I don't know what the initials N.P.G. stand for.

Don,

I got it from Mccusker. If you search his inventory for "C25A" and select "Crosby" you will see another just like it. If you are just interested in the aircraft and not the fancy border, the one just below in the search results has the same aircraft, and is 1/4 the price. I didn't pay the normal price for my copy of the "special delivery" cover. I picked it up during one of Mccusker's 40% off sales. I buy a lot from Mccusker, but almost always at a heavy discount when on sale, or through one of his auctions. If he has something I want badly, and it doesn't come up for auction or seems ever to be put on sale, I will usually spend the "buyer reward" dollars I accumulate on it. I used $130 dollars of such rewards on a $250 purchase of some unusual Carol Gordon HP covers I've been wanting for some time. He's definitely one of my favorite dealers for FDC's.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at McCusker's page.
