Hi guys...Ya, flyspecking has hit a new low...haha
But, this Canadian Air Forces stamp set is (I think) the only stamp Canada put out where the word "Canada" is covered over by the design as shown below...The gunner area of the plane is over top.

Aircraft can be tough.

If you are orthogonal to the body and level with the aircraft, as in this stamp, making the aircraft smaller will open-up a lot of space above & below the aircraft, and make it look small.

The traditional solution is to view the aircraft from any perspective that lets you bring the wingspan into the image; now, you've got a fully-2D object that can 'fill' a stamp.

The solution used here - shorten the stamp vertically, and make the aircraft so large that it barely fits on the stamp - adds a nice bit of drama - a sense of movement, perhaps.

Can't speak to the patriotic issue of defacing the name of the country, but I like the barely constrained aircraft.

Cheers,

Interesting, wert.

I never noticed or even thought to look for that sort of design issue.

Matter of fact, to me the best looking bombers of WW2 were the B52 and of course the Lancaster..
I am very, very lucky...I live about 7 miles from the airport where the only flying Lancaster is housed(sorry, one in England to) ..I hear and see it in the air over my house often..Sends shivers through my body..wow.

I found a couple of other relatively recent Canadian stamps that meet those parameters, so the design over the word "Canada" has been done before:
