I still haven't purchased the Australian catalog, so I post the question to this group. I'll use Stanley Gibbons nomenclature (the Scott's reference is 50).

My problem is that the stamp shows indications of a SG Type IIA, but there is no such stamp for the watermark 6 variety (Narrow crown, narrow A). The entire 9p stamp is shown here, with an unfortunate tear in the right side:

The bottom left confirms that it is a repaired die showing no break, hence at least a Die II. There is a clear break at the kangaroo eye level, so it is at least a Die IIA.

But, I don't see the defining break in the upper line between the ST, but, perhaps, a slightly broken upper right corner.

So, maybe I'm missing it, but SG only lists a Die II and a Die IIB for this stamp. I think it is a Die IIA. Any ideas?

I've had a look at the Brusden white Catalogue and it would appear as if your stamp is a DIE IIB. The process you have followed looks correct. The BW catalogue indicates that the break over ST in Australia is sometimes almost inked over. Your first image of the whole stamp suggests this. Another help in identification for DIE IIB is a break at the junction of the inner frame lines at the top right corner. Your stamp appears to have this feature. Stephen

Thanks Stephen. I didn't know the break above ST could be sometimes inked over. That makes the searching a little harder
