Question On Rib Paper As 597ii

This is what happens when there's no work in construction lol. You start going through your stamps and driving yourself nuts.
Was wondering if anyone could explain what the RIB paper is. I was thinking that there should be some ribbing noticeable on the back of the stamp either vertical or horizontal. And if it's smooth, like the one I have it would be 597 or 597i.

I'll try to give you an answer. From the number you gave, I'd guess that is a Unitrade catalogue number, and that we're talking about a Canadian stamp. If so, my information may not be much help.
In a thread on ribbed paper, essayk described viewing ribbed paper;

Ken Srail's photo of ribbed paper. Relize that you are looking at a stamp the is taller that it is wide and that you are viewing from the bottom to the top, stamp is distorted because of the angle it is at. This is horizontal ribbing.
