If I'm not mistaken, the 'Silver Dart' stamp also features the famed Avro Arrow.

It's funny they put the Arrow on a 1959 stamp, it's the year Diefenbaker sentence it to death

I don't have an answer to your quiz, but the stamp featuring the Bricklin brought back memories, as I was just getting my license around that time and thought the gull-wing doors on the Bricklin were just as sporty as they come. I even went into a dealership and got a brochure and to this day, I still chuckle at how they presented the car's interior in the highlight below, especially in an era where smoking was still considered acceptable virtually anywhere:

Are they perhaps all "failed" or "unused" Canadian inventions? I know that all but the train were considered decent inventions for their respect transportation assignments, the Arrow especially so, but they were either not used or only available for a short time before being cancelled. Not sure about the train though.

Well done, Scottamer!

258 (1943) The Ram Tank, which popped up on the foreign soil topic, never went into battle because of its inferiority to European models. It was used for training only.

383 (1959) The Avro Arrows, Canada's very successful foray into jet construction, was scrapped by the Diefenbaker government due to intense American pressure. The prototype models were actually dumped into one of the Great Lakes.

460 (1970) The Turbo train, was the future of rail transportation. It had a lot of difficulties (as reported by area66) but these were more to do with union sabotage, because all maintenance and repair was to be done in the USA, not our own Canadian shops. (I got it from the boys at ExpoRail, Canada's Railway Museum in Montreal. (Come visit us!))

1605y (1996) "Due to Bricklin's lack of experience in the auto industry, coupled with the funding problems, the Bricklin factory was not able to produce vehicles fast enough to make a profit. As a result, only 2,854 cars were built before the company went into receivership, owing the New Brunswick government $23 million." "1975 Bricklin SV-1 was rated by TIME in the series The 50 Worst Cars of All Time." (ex Wikipædia)

In another blog, members were commenting on the wisdom of commemorating living Canadians because their failures or life-problems may render them inappropriate laureates. Here are four Canadian inventions prematurely celebrated!

There has been a long debate about the jet aircraft on the silver dart issue - and I think the consensus was that was NOT the Avro Arrow.

Well... here they are side by side:

There are some subtle differences. However, if it's not the Avro Arrow, what other Canadian-made jet is depicted here?

The production of the jet was cancelled February, 20 1959 - just three days before the stamp's date of issue. It would have already been printed. The first flight was March 25, 1958.

Comparing the illustrations provided by sak, it seems definitely to be the Avro Arrow. They would not have had 3 flying in formation, but there was a total of 5 built when it was cancelled. The Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa has a nose section on display. It would be interesting to see published comments on the stamp and the identification of the fighter jet.
