Floortrader, is the inversion the giveaway or the shades or what? Otherwise I cannot see enough details to distinguish. |

There were six printings of this value with different characteristics.
The inverted centre was on one position on the last printing, "White paper. imperf. Dull cinnamon shade.". |

Is that from the genuine issue,

Thanks NIGELC ,I found no information on this stamp. It was purchased at the St Louis Expo part of a massive Russian lot . The paper variety plus the poor quality of the later printings looked like a fake. I will redo this page and then post it . |

Hi,
The description of the "6th printing" is from the Barefoot "Georgia" handbook.
I'm not aware of any forgeries of this set but I'll have a look and see if any are described there.
As far as I recall each of the values in this set had a deliberate "error" in its last printing (and the number of printings varied by value). The most spectacular is the "sleeping Tamara" where in one position the image of Queen Tamara was adjusted to suggest she had fallen asleep!
I don't know why these were created, maybe it was just light relief with the approach of the Red Army. The Georgia handbook retells an old story that they were requested by a foreign engineer who was fixing the perforating equipment but, as it points out, if these were the case why were the last printings all imperforate? |

Great information Nigel! Quote: if these were the case why were the last printings all imperforate? Maybe the Red Army arrived before the stamps got to the perforation machine |

Great -----most worldwide collectors have 6 stamps in the set and maybe 12 with the perfs and imperfs of this set. My collection has a few dozen ....ha ha ......guess having a 600,000 or 700,000 different in the future is not out of the possibilty . |

Nices pages floortrader. Those shades look great. Here are a couple of my Georgia stamps, nicely used. The 40 value is the rough perforation type you identify. Can anyone identify the cancel on the 50? |
