3d Stitch Watermark

I bought a group of nice stamps with 4 x 3d Beavers. They seemed quite nice and was happy to get them but I only bought them because I bid low and won. There were some forgeries in the group so I think this put off the bidders. I saw some nice stamps and some bad ones.

When I got the group I was happy and kept the ones I wanted and tried to sell the 3d's putting them up on a Chat site. The buyers said that they didn't like this stamp in particular because it was oxidized. And they complained bitterly that I had posted such a stamp.



Well, I cleaned the stamp in peroxide and most of the oxidation was cleaned off. I washed it in water, dried and pressed it and it looked better.

Then I was going to scan the back for ebay auction and saw this!! I never d.id look closely at the back because it was mounted in a nice holder.

I think it says Vertical Stitch at the right and some initials at the left. I checked it in watermark fluid and it looks like a stitch watermark to me.

What do you think?

I am no pro at stitch watermarks, but I added colour to get a better look..I don't see the zipper affect...Just my opinion.

Jimjung, Yours looks like the stitch watermark. Here is one of mine to compare.

Stitch watermarks can be very hard to detect. I have two certified copies each on a different thickness of paper.

I do have some nice Stitch Watermark examples but I also have some faint ones with VGG and PF Certs so it is not necessarily the zipper effect. Of course, the zipper effect is preferred but with these being scarce and hi-cat, I'd take a lesser one.

boy do I ever have a hard time with stitch watermarks..Everything to me looks like one...
