Best Way Of Finding Specific Items?

Hi All,

Just found this forum today and thought you might be able to help. :) Outside of using popular online auction sites (eBay, etc) as well as auction sites specific to stamps and other collectables, what would be a good method of finding specific items for my collection? For example, if I wanted to hunt down a specific FDC (Scott #157) but can't find it anywhere, what's a good path to take to finding it? Calling dealers and submitting requests for it?

Hi FDCFan and welcome to this forum. Your question is a familiar one, one that most of us struggle with in one way or another! You have most of the answers already. One other way would be stamp shows. Local stamp clubs atc. www.discountcoverstore.com is another option.
By the way, I assume your cover is Canadian?

That's a pretty specialized item. If you haven't done so already, you may want to contact the Canada First Day Cover Study Group and/or check their website CanadaFDC.org. I imagine they could give you some good leads.

Thank you for your responses. Indeed, I was referring to Canada #157. :)

I am now in my mid-30s, but when I was 18 and 19 I amassed a decent collection of Canadian FDCs--mostly pre-1970. I've kept the collection ever since and took it up again in the last year or so. I am now trying to fill the more expensive gaps that I didn't have the money for back then.

I did manage to collect quite a few of the Eppstadt covers from 1927 when I was a teen, and it's nice to see that they have gone up in value quite a bit since then.

FDCFan - I suggest you make contact with bnaps.org. Their study groups, convention(with vendors) and publications might assist you.

Yes, the Canada First Day Cover Study Group is part of BNAPS.
