Yesterday I made my first order of stamps from an overseas postal system - a set of colorful 2012 Christmas stamps from Gibraltar. I also visited some other postal service websites - Great Britain, Canada, Australia, San Marino. I registered at each site in anticipation of the possibility of future purchases.

So my first question is if it is a good idea to order contemporary Christmas stamps directly from their respective postal systems, or is there a better (for example, more secure, cheaper, etc.) way to obtain foreign Christmas stamps?

I also tried to do the same for the Bahamas but there seems to be a different method they use of submitting a form and sending along a pre-payment for stamps.

Has anyone found a good way to order stamps from the Bahamas besides ebay, BidStart, etc.?

Go to the Bahamas Postal Service website. They have a Philatelic Bureau with whom you can open a standing order!

Neal, I re-read your question. Yes, it is a good idea to order directly from the postal system of the country you want. Any other source is going to charge more!

Thank you for the feedback.

In regards to opening a Bahamas Postal Service standing order it appears the process is:
1. Fill out the PDF form by hand and return by mail (or scan?)
2. Send a check to Bahamas Postal Service to pre-fund the account

Am I understanding the process correctly?

When I ordered some Christmas stamps from Gibraltar I was able to create an account online and pay with PayPal. Too easy!

Any other suggestions on ordering from foreign postal services?

Try WOPA(World online philatelic agency), it represents 26 postal agencies and sells the stamps at face value.

I had just discovered WOPA yesterday. I've already selected several for future order.

Unfortunately I didn't see the Bahamas listed as one of the participating countries.

Peter - any other source might charge more for the stamps, but you also have to figure in shipping and if he wants only one set from each country (the most recent Christmas set), then using a new issues dealer might be cheaper and certainly would take less time.
