Scott #247i - Double Step.

Hi guys..Posted this one a long time ago about the black shift in the design...Found a web site that says there is a double step on the left side of some of these stamps...First I will post THEIR pictures..

Wert. I think the feature you are pointing out is normal for these stamps. I have quite a few, and though most are down too low to see clearly, my one example shows the step quite clearly.



However, under this extreme magnification, now I am wondering if this is really a type 247i Re-entry ... Re-entry on lower steps. I had thought this re-entry was only on the right side, not the left side.

Exactly partime..I would say yours is a re-entry in my opinion..

There are a lot of these stamps that show minor doubling of the black plate usually in the steps. There are some that show doubling further up the monument and in the bushes also. I have one of the sheets mint and spotted at least five positions on it showing varying degrees of doubling. I would not consider any of them to be major re-entries and I have about 10 different ones mint/used in my collection. These would also be very hard to plate as they are very similar in appearance.

What is the major re-entry then? Unitrade is not specific on the details. Can someone post an example? Thanks.

A lot of the "major re-entries" listed in catalogs are really minor re-entries. An example of this that has been corrected in Unitrade is 47i. For many years this was touted to be a Major Re-entry, It is now listed as just a re-entry. The amount of shift of the image is very slight so although it was listed for years as a major they now just list it as a re-entry. You will also note that Unitrade lists 247i as a re-entry and not a major re-entry.
