would be interesting to take the same stamp and compare the grading results with the e.z. grader which is used by the PF as it seems.

I have made some test of the software packages mentioned above. For reference, I have used the Australian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue (ACSC) as this gives many perforations to two decimal places.

I have had trouble posting this as a single reply, so I'll break it up into the coming posts.

Results in red I regard as anomalies. If it has an asterisk, the anomaly can be seen in the program, eg: pulled perfs.

Well, the EzPerf software is the pits!

1. It is always on top of all other windows on your screen, even programs you subsequently launch.
2. It has no menu by which you can shut it down.
3. It does't appear on the menu bar at the bottom of Windows so you can't close it there.
4. It doesn't even in Task Manager's list of running programs so you can't close it there either.
5. The only way to close it is to Restart your PC.

Norton Utilities didn't object to it being installed but you have to suspect that it is tracking your activity or even something worse. So I've uninstalled both programs from this company.

thank you very much for your very interesting and useful posts (just the last one has now some very red bold "edited by staff" entry). I didn't try both of the programs but always thought about buying the e.z. grader. Just for fun if I want to get (centering!) grading of a stamp, and as the PF also uses it. When I read your last entry I am not sure about all this anymore :). But still your grading results and comparisons are helpful, mainly in the way that the programs are not giving similar results, and both are not perfect in mm measurements for grading (while the e.z. matches more).

Something I should have said re the grading of stamps is that the program I am not allowed to name seemed to be fooled by postmarks. On the two stamps with postmarks extending across the edge of the stamps, it graded them as Fair 20, whereas Stamp Analyser graded them as Very Good to Fine.

Decided to give Stamp Analyzer by Rakium a try on my Mac. Downloaded it from the Apple App Store for $4.99. Immediately installed and put in the following #744 Old Faithful for analysis. Scan to JPEG format was done at 600dpi.

Results were perf 11. "Grade" 89 VF-XF. With margins in pixels 15 top, 14 right, 17 bottom, and 16 top.

An interesting exercise as many multiples are disappearing into the grading craze

I guess 1 question I would have is what constitutes jumbo vs regular?

Bob
