Hi,I look at stamp covers and one or more of the stamps are a little bit crooked, what is the proper way to measure them with cut and paste to compare the size to the other stamp.

I mean if there is a 632 stamp that's fairly straight but another stamp a bit crooked how can I cut and paste the crooked one to compare it to the known 632.

Or is this impossible ?

You can do this with a freeware programme called "Irfanview". It's a lightweight imaging app in which you can isolate the crooked stamp & then use the "straighten" tool to straighten it. Put the two images you want to compare side by side & away you go.

Nice covers.

To flip through the images of the stamps on screen with the cutsor keys (arrow keys) you could use HP Photo Editing (free older version 1.5 I think), or Google's free Picassa photo editting program also.

Or you could fiddle around with your scanner and line up the stamps on cover to get them just right. Hmmmm . . . try the other ways first please.

Hi,this is the stamp I'm trying to figure out,the other covers I just put up as an example.

The 2 cent is a 634 for sure, the 1 cent is what I'm interested in,it's a bit crooked and a crooked stamp image is smaller than a straight one in height(I tried it here at home with 2 552's,I took a picture with one crooked and one straight side by side, then measured them in photoshop and the crooked one is smaller in the picture.)The picture shows how close it is,it's really close and with the stamp straightened it would be even closer.I found some images of covers on the internet with 632's and 552's and the size difference is way larger and quite noticeable.

So I know the chances are close to 0 but it looks like a 11 X 11 stamp the same size as the 634.

This is the only picture I have,I bought it for 2 bucks,it's in the mail.
