Today Zimbabwe has reorganized its finances. They go from the Zimbabwe dollar to the US dollar. The exchange rate is - yes this is real - 35,000,000,000,000,000 Zimbabwe dollars for 1 US dollar.
My most recent catalog is from 2011 and does not show anything spectacular. Has anyone seen his reflected in the stamps issued by Zimbabwe?

As far as I know, Zimbabwe abandoned its currency in 2009 because of hyperinflation. Since then, it's used a variety of more stable, foreign currencies. |

In Other News. Maybe Zimbabwe will print stamps denominated in Bitcoins! http://allafrica.com/stories/201711060751.html Quote:
In Zimbabwe, where the financial system is in disarray, one bitcoin is trading at $13,500, as of Friday, on the local exchange, Golix. The southern African country, which abandoned its own hyperinflation-ravaged currency in 2009 in favour of the U.S. dollar, has run out of hard currency. Its local bond note currency pegged at par with the USD, is fast losing its value dampening confidence in the country's monetary system.
Coins are roughly double the price as in the rest of the world primarily because there is no way to get your money out of the country. |

Just the oddment, here and there, as my example.

Hi Rod, I know there are a lot of zeros in those Zimbabwean stamps, but I think you shortchanged yourself. Look again, they are $450,000 stamps, not $45,000.What's a zero or two anyway, among friends :-) Either way, almost a million bucks to mail a letter. What a crime...... If you'd like, I could go to our local dollar store and send you a cheap pair of spectacles, they help me see stamps better close up (otherwise I have good vision) --Jim Wentzell stampguyaps177-681 |
