Hi guys...Take a look at this cover of 2 NFLD stamp and one Canadian stamp on a cover with a 1950 cancel....Why would anyone place a NFLD stamp on a cover at that date..??...2 years after Confederation..??

Were they still valid for postal use? People will use anything, especially that close to the change.

Google is your friend... "Newfoundland postage stamps remain valid for mail posted anywhere in Canada, although they are rarely used for that purpose."

Newfoundland stamps are still valid as postage to the best of my knowledge.

Newfoundland stamps are still valid for postage in Canada and I have a few covers even later (1968 for example).

10 cents is 10 cents after all.

Tommy..It is funny you should say that..As far as I know, before NFLD entered confederation it was classified as another country...??

Wouldn't that be like me say putting German stamps on a cover in Canada and expect it to be mailed..??

Hi Wert

It was part of the agreement when Newfoundland entered into Confederation that their stamps would still be valid for postage. (So, I have been told)
