Hello all, I have spent a lot of time researching this cover trying to discover its value, cannot seem to find one even remotely similar... Notice that the stamp is #600 from 1924, yet the cancel says 1941. How could there be a FDC from 1941 with a 1924 stamp? Also, does the illustration add any value to the cover? Thanks in advance for your help!

It's not a first day cover for the stamp, but the post office. Camp Grant, Illinois is now a DPO (Discontinued Post Office).

Very interesting. Well, that answers one question! I'm wondering what the retail value for this would be, since at this point in my philatelic career I'm focused most on monetary value. I see that changing soon though... :)

If you are trying to monetize the cover, your best bet probably is to contact the Camp Grant Museum and see if they are interested in buying it:

The Lincoln cachet does not really add anything to this first day of the post office operation cover. The stamp as you say is an older one that was used for its philatellic interest. A Lincoln stamp would have tied into the cachet, but the Grant stamp is a stretch. One might say that Grant was one of the many Generals that served in the war while Licoln was President, and that he was the second President after Lincoln (Johnson followed Lincoln, then Grant followed Johnson). A bit tenoous as I mentioned. I would not expect such a cover to have any commercial value beyond a token amount of perhaps $1 at most. You might want to offer it to the Camp Grant Museum as a donation if they don't already have some of them.
