The Siegel site gives a hint that the Dan Curtis revenues part 2 will be auctioned in the fall 2015. Should be some great 2oTh century material here. But Dan only went to the documentary tax to the stck trtansfers.

I wonder if his collection includes the RD185B on document, PFC 486693. One of the great 20th century documents and rarities. |

Excuse by interruption to your gleefulness! Being so new to the Revenues, I'm afraid you guys are talking over my head. Not to change the subject, but could you steer me toward the most common mount sizes needed for the US REvenues? I couldn't see spending >$1200 on a new set of Palo hingeless albums, so I just sprang for the Scott Revenue pages Parts 1 & 2 in order to house my accumulation of revenues.
Which means that I'll be affixing my mounts and there are so many sizes I wonder if there might be a guide reference to the most typical mount sizes needed (like 28 X 35 and 30 X 57). |

Alas, there really is no guide possible without knowing what revenues you intend to collect. Of the Scott listed revenues there are probably 25 or 30 different size stamps, and of the non Scott listed even more. |

From looking at Dans website its looks like he did not have the RD 185B. He did own RD 185C(1 of 2 known), RD 208A ( 1 of 3 known), RD 208B (only copy known), RD 208C (only copy known. plus RD 233 and RD 138. Pretty great effort on the rare Stock Transfer stamps. |

Hawid or similar strips are probably the most economical way to go, rather than individually sized mounts. You can use a Hawid or Prinz mount-cutter if you don't trust yourself with scissors! Personally, I use scissors, but my standards are low.

Geoff, I admit to being lazier than you and the other hardy souls who handcraft their own customized pages and lovingly measure and cut each and every mount. I ordered the mounts pre-cut to fit the US Revenue pages from StampParaphernalia.com. Christopher Diaz offers nice page sets (color or B/W) and separately sells cut to order Showguard split-back mounts for each set of pages. I could only get black mounts cut to size so I compromised. Also, despite my preference for Hawid top-loading mounts, I could not find appropriate sized mounts for the revenues.
My final solution for my US Revenues was to purchase standard Scott National BOB black & white pages (Parts I & II), Telegraph pages by Sherwood Springer, Private Die Match & Medicine Parts I & II by Aldrich Publishing, and the pre-cut mounts from Stamp Paraphernalia. Total cost was $576. Not cheap, but less than 50% compared to the over $1200 for Palo Hingeless Albums. |

A wide range of material from both the 19th and 20th centuries. A lot of very nice things. Also a few land mines. |

I just want to comment that I was excitedly awaiting this sale. However, my excitement soon turned to disappointment when browsing the sale and realizing that they grouped a majority of the material in a few dozen lots. Granted I understand Siegel's reasoning is to eliminate as much work as possible. Nevertheless, by doing this they eliminate a great number of us who don't have deep pockets or an unlimited budget. There are many items that would be a nice addition but to have to shell out four figures just seems hopeless.
One can only can hope the material makes its way into other sales where at least collectors like myself (and I'm sure many here at SCF) would have a better shot at adding some of Dan's treasures to their collection. |

Yeah, I too am extremely disappointed at some of the items in the balance lots that, were they lotted as individual items as they should be, I would bid on, but simply cannot affort the price of admission as large lots.
Some of the decisions to NOT lot as singles has me scratching my head.
It's almost as if Siegel is custom packaging some of the material for Eric and Richard.
Then again, the Siegel staff isn't exactly known for being the most knowledgeable when it comes to revenues...
There's enough good stuff (granted esoteric) in the balance lots, that Siegel probably could have split this auction into two, had they broken more out as singles.
Who knows, they may be experiencing pressure from the estate to get this over with, and they're just phoning it in.
Some of the single item lot writeups are more than a little clueless as well. |

Let's be thankful Siegel put up good scans. We just saved several thousands of dollars trying to position the plate scratch on R 114 and R140. The scratch shows as a strong diagonal mark across the shield at the top of the stamp. It's clearly seen in position 70 of lot 1038. The variety has been known for a long time but not its position. The only alternative would have been to accumulate a large number of expensive multiples and complete the plating reconstruction. Karl |

I found myself on the losing end of some of the big remainder lots in the Curtis Revenue II auction. But I'm pleased to let everyone know that many of the big lots went to Michael Aldrich. I'm sure he would entertain want lists from disappointed bidders. Karl |
