An Interesting Cover 5-Cent Decimal Cover W/ "Burning Bush"

Here is an interesting cover sent to the Captain of the Ploughboy. The Ploughboy was a side wheeler which sailed the Great Lakes. The cover also has an RPO cancelation on back from the CWR. The stamp has the "Burning Bush" variety from plate position 10, first state of the plate.

I do not know the Captains name for the Ploughboy in 1860. The Ploughboy has a very interesting history on the Great Lakes.

Ah, yes, the greenery as such is more shaded . . . just under the sun. Maybe they placed the sun a bit too close. ;)

The captain of the Ploughboy was D. W. McLean.

Another cover from the same period with the Burning Bush variety. This one dated DE 11 1859. Both early printings.

water, the reference is https://books.google.com/books?id=1xQ1AQAAMAAJ&dq. There's not a ton there about the Ploughboy, but there is a story about how its engine broke down. If I remember correctly Captain McLean sent men off to find help but a storm lifted and three of the four men perished. You'll have to look for yourself to make certain I'm not making that up!

Coriandre, that one is the nicest I have seen for this variety. That's not a Burning Bush, that's a raging fire !
