I can read some of this letter, but not all of it. I know its asking a lot, but I am struggling with this one. Even if you choose not to help, its still a cool letter.
STAMPSINWV3 - One of the difficulties in reading this letter is due to the fact that the writer would not always dot his i's and ever cross his t's.
Here's the body of the letter for you to practise on:
I wrote you on the 27th ult. and have today Re ... esteemed ... of 23rd with order for 100 bales Cotton, which shall be executed so soon as I can to advantage. The L'pools advices to hand today will still further depress prices so soon as there is any cotton offering on the market. The supply on the market has been so limited for the past two or three weeks especially of the better grades that it has been almost impossible to give reliable quotations; but the planters will, I think, many of them, be compelled to let go for they must have money and the difficulty of negotiating & the downward headway in England, and uncertainty as to the duration of the way will debar shipments to L'pool, unless prices become still materially lower. Most of the agencies of the banks have, for the present, ceased taking Bills in any point and the rate on Saturday was 1 1/4 % for 30 d/s & 2 1/2 % and for 60 d/s in New York which must come off the price of Cotton. Our stock is about 22m bales, almost entirely in planters Very truly, Yours John M.... Shall purchase you 100 Bs. at the best possible terms & the lowest rate at Ci.. . The party from Savannah who took all the cotton offering last week has left.
