While going through my Barbados stamps I came across the below Revenue overprint issue...

I know that such is not listed within the Scott Cats, but any information that can be bestowed upon me about the above item will be greatly appreciated.

It appears to be a George V issue, design A12, it is perf. 14 with watermark 3. Though those listed in Scott for the denomination of 1p are issued in the colors of carmine or scarlet. But this item is a dull lilac.

your kind attention & assistance with the above will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Stampalotapus

My guess is a faded example of the 1d violet from 1916, Barefoot #16.

According to Edmund Bayley's book "The Stamps of Barbados", 7 values from this set were overprinted Revenue.
These include the 1d, 2d, 4d, 6d, 1/, 2/ and 3/ issues. You will find more than one color for the 1d and 4d overprints.

There are two different overprints one measures 13.5mm with the period, and the other measures 16.5mm without the period.

They were required for various documents.

Rod, does Barefoot list the two overprints? The example shown here would appear to be the second version which has no period.

The Bayley family lived in Barbados. I purchased Edmund's book from him in 1989. It was a limited edition of 1,000 copies which he published and sold directly. Most of the purchasers were members of the British Caribbean Philatelic Study Group.

Some of the overprint quantities were pretty low. Maybe Barefoot is listing known examples?

Yes. No period.
Both examples shown.
I'll drop a scan off tomorrow,
strange Bayley does not list the 3d

Sorry, Bayley does list the 3d, but only for the larger sized overprint. I missed it when I transcribed the details.

So for the first overprint which is 13.5mm wide and has a period at the end, there are 1d, 2d, 4d, 6d, 1/, 2/, and 3/ issues.
The 1d has both a black and a blue overprint. The 4d has a gold on silver overprint and a red-brown overprint.

The second overprint which is 16mm wide with no period was printed on the 1d, 2d, 3d, 4d, and 3/ values.
