Some Revenues From Dayton This Weekend

My aunt from Vandalia turned 80 this weekend so I drove up from NC and on the way stopped at AIRPEX in Dayton. More dealers than I expected frankly, but I was interested in searching some stocks of dealers I hadn't met yet. Nothing great, just picked up some silks (R64, R65, a nice R34 block of four) and the R2C which I'd like an opinion on. It's a beautiful impression and color, but it looks to me that at least a side has been reperfed. The price was right, and the reputable dealer has given a certificate/return policy so I'm ok. At first I thought it may be a perfed proof, but the paper is wrong. What do you think?

The next day I traveled up to Lorain to visit mom. I always frequented Jamies flea market in Amherst when I was growing up, so I decided to go there saturday morning to see if it was as I remembered it. Great flea market. I met a document dealer who sells there a few times a year and wouldn't you know it, he had a bunch of CDVs with revenues. I thought these were a good buy at a couple of bucks each. All in all it was a good weekend!

Great looking revenues .What kind of scanner are you using .Great detail in the pictures.
I am getting ready to up grade .do you have any suggestions.

Hi K - I have a Canon Canoscan 9000. It's not very expensive $169, I'm very pleased with it. I scan at either 1200 or 2400 dpi (those detail scan are 2400) into Photoshop, adjust levels and sharpen, then save them as close to limit of 200k as I can.

Nothing wrong with the R2c, it's the lovely early shade and impression and the perfs are fine. A VF example.

Nice pickups, southpaw! I love the R2c and am a big fan of CDVs with first issues. They definitely add to the "flavor" of a Civil War era collection.

Thanks Bart! Is this something you would recommend getting a cert for from PF? If I had concerns about the perfs, someone else may. Rusty, I really like the Saylor's shield back. Do I recall a shield cancellation from this photographer?

I'm not aware of a Saylor's shield cancellation. Maybe Dan knows of one. But I also like the back. We should have a CDV thread. If no one else does it, maybe I'll start one when I get home.

I don't think a cert is needed on this stamp, but it's only $27 to the PF if you really want one.

I'm not aware of a Saylor shield cancel.
