Those are nice pieces to have in a collection. There are also "animated" postcards that via a cardboard wheel, illustrate the breakup of the Kingdom.

This is a good illustration of culmination of 19th century nationalism in Hungary/Europe. Shows how nationalist movement ultimately destroyed the concept of the country or state in Hungary, altered from what was perceived as a political union of disparate ethinic groups to a nationalist state, based on language. Trying to absorb the Baltic states didn't help.

These labels are very simplistic and nationalistic but don't really
explain what happened after WWI.

Hungarians were the minority in everyone of those former
territories therefore it went according to Wilson's fourteen points.

X. The people of Austria-Hungary, whose place among the nations we wish to see safeguarded and assured, should be accorded the freest opportunity to autonomous development.

What was Western Hungary became the Austrian province of
Burgenland.

According to the 1910 census 291,800 people lived on the territory of present-day Burgenland. Among them 217,072 were German-speaking (74%), 43,633 Croatian-speaking (15%) and 26,225 (9%) Hungarian-speaking.

Also the word "took" is wrong. The rump state of Austria was
awarded the area by the Allies because of the 3/4 majority
of German speakers but Hungary refused to hand it over.

It was finally settled by plebiscite when the majority German speakers voted to join Austria which created the ninth province
of Burgenland (land of castles)
The Sopron district remained with the Hungarian state.

Stamp below was issued in 1961 for the 40th Anniversary
of Burgenland as part of Austria

I like the stamps, but the issues involved deserve a semester-length course at uni.

Much the same could be said for Slovakia. The Slovaks had been dominated by Hungary for centuries. Beginning in the 19th century their aspirations for a home of their own became louder. Instead they got shoved into a union with the Czechs, now freed from Austrian domination. There are two sides to most stories.
