Hello all! How are you today? I want to find out if this stamp is a forgery or genuine. What is it? I can not find it anywhere. I have had this stamp for over 5 years and came across it today browsing through my collection. Any comment?

It would be difficult to say much considering the condition of the stamp. |

collect4daze: welcome to the web site. I think you will find this forum to be a good electronic place to hang out.
Regarding your question, I think it may be Russian in origin due to the presence of the double headed eagle. The values being in the corners also resemble Russian. The writing may be Cyrillic; maybe a stamp, cut square, postal card cut-out.. However, as KGB points out, the condition makes it difficult to determine for sure. |

I'm assuming 20k. denomination of a Russian stamp from 1875, but that's only a wild guess. I haven't done any comparing yet. (It's as though all the color was sucked out of the stamp!) |

I'd agree it looks Russian, but the corner numbers are all wrong. The whole thing looks quite crude. Question, is it a stamp on piece, or is it postal stationary - meaning is it part of the larger piece of paper? Note it could also be Finnish. It's difficult to determine what the currency is because of the cancel. |

It's true that when you are looking at early Russia, you have to look at Finland and, in one instance, Poland, too. In this case, though, it looks like it is imitating Russia Sc#3, a design which wasn't used in either Finland or Poland. This denomination should be blue and orange, and would be perfed. Early Russia also had fairly high production values (i.e., the stamps looked "good").
As for postal stationery, my list of Russia is cobbled together from a few sources, but I don't see anything with this design and this value in my lists. I can't rule it out, but I can say that it doesn't seem likely.
My best guess is a crude forgery. |

Is this "stamp" on a medallion of some kind? Looks sort of like a seal or something. |
