Error In US U313 Cut Square?

Good Day to all. With observation, can view that the letter "P" in
Postage has no green in the upper casing and the "T" in States look like bleeding done from the die. Is this common with Die 2 U71 oriented buff unused to have this appearance in their design? Thank you in advance.

I have been studying this issue (2 cent Plimpton & Morgan/Purcell) for some time. There are a great many die varieties. You often see the centers of A of STATES, P of POSTAGE, and A of POSTAGE "filled in", in various combinations. You also see them with just a small speck of green. These could be worn dies or they could be the result of an engraver removing the center bit of color while touching up a worn or damaged die.

The green mark in the T of STATES is simply a filled die.

Not much I'm afraid. In the February, 1955 SPA Journal, pp 289-293 is the piece by H.S. Dickinson (Die Varieties of the 2c 1887 Issue of U.S. Embossed Envelopes).

This work was part of the UPSS's 19th Century catalog until it was dropped from a recent edition. The editor would like to replace it with an appendix containing new work.

There was a recent article by yours truly in the UPSS journal (Postal Stationery) basically introducing my study effort.
