Hi.
I was measuring some precancels today and got to wandering,if anyone has though of printing the Precancel styles on acetape.
I know that the acetape is available for inkjets, laser printers in various page sizes and I am thinking that if printed on the acetape, I could measure the styles on a stamp by placing the printed styles over the stamps.
Any of your views on this would be appreciated.

That's a great idea, though I would worry about getting the print from the acetate (sp?) sheets all over the stamps when working. We used to put this kind of thing in binders and found a lot of transferred images. |

Hi KGB. Thanks for your input on my question. I had not thought about the transferring of ink from the stamps. Maybe not a good idea after all. Back to the old ways, I think.
Thanks again. |

But it is a good idea! If one were very careful, it could work. The print on the acetate is only on one side, of course, so one could make a number of helpful templates. How to store the templates is the biggest issue, I think. Transfers would dirty both sides of the sheets if one were not careful. |

Very interesting comment. I think that I will order a few sheets of transparent printer sheets and see how things go. After reading your reply, I think that it is worth a go to see what can be acheived.
Thanks again. Really appreciate your reply. |

I am unfamiliar with transparent printer sheets. Wouldn't the ink smudge using an inkjet printer?

I think it would but a laser or thermal printer would be ideal

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but the printed side of the transparency could be 'encapsulated' easily enough with another transparency placed on top (or bottom.)
I'm assuming that a laser or thermal printed would be the way to go. (Long time since I was in an office space!) |

I am going to take a look at laser printers, just for trying this out. Mono Laser printers are not that costly nowdays.
Will also give it a try with my inkjet as I was asking one of the tech guys I am in contact with and he said "that as long as you let the ink dry for twenty-four hours it should be fine". He also suggested encapsulating the printed sheet as well as KGB on here. |

The transparencies I have are designed to be used on an inkjet printer. I have seen no issues with the ink smearing or running, though I haven't tried leaving them in the rain. :)
I haven't used them for templates, but I find them invaluable when creating display materials for a presentation that's sans-conputer. |
