Hi.

My wife has just bought me an iPad Air 2 128GB.

I was wondering if anyone here, uses an iPad for
there collections and wanted to ask what software
or catalogs they use.

Many thanks for any help.

I have used Stamp Manage, EZ Stamp, and a few other less known stamp applications. I have a high end Asus tablet along with other assorted desktop computers and servers. I have a 60GB video IPod but that is my only Apple product.

First, you must find a stamp app that will work on a Apple operating system. Second you need a way to install the app onto the Air 2. The Air 2 has a proprietary 'Lightning' connector but I think they include a 'Lightning to USB' adapter. If the stamp software is delivered on a CD/DVD you will need to get a CD/DVD external device to get it installed. You may be able to use the wireless to install but note that these apps generally come with thousands and thousands of stamp images; downloading/installing wirelessly might take hours.

In general, the apps I mention above are not designed to work with mobile devices. In other words, screen layout and screen elements such as buttons (size) may not be optimized for use with a tablet. Frankly I find that I end up attaching a USB mouse and avoiding trying to use the touch screen or to navigate with my fat fingers. And I must be an old fart because I find using software 'pop-up' keyboard frustrating and awkward. I end up using a Blue-Tooth full size keyboard with my tablet whenever I need to type more than a word or two.

Feedback from others who have experience with the Air 2 will be the most beneficial for you. But hopefully the feedback above will give you a few things to consider.

Bimbo,

Now that Marios is on this site, I'll bet a dollar that he has read your message and is already working on it as we speak.

Bimbo,

Does this help?

Q: Do you have a version of EZ Stamp that will work on a MAC

A: Hi Charles,
EzStampis a native PC application. But, you can run EzStamp on your MAC.
You will need a program called Virtual PC , Parallels, SoftWindows or
iEmulator ( www.iemulator.com/ ) which will allow you to run almost any
PC application on your MAC.
You will also need a copy of WIndows ( XP, Vista or Win 7 )
We currently have over 1200 MAC users running our software in this way with
no problems at all.
You can download a FREE demo of Ezstamp to try on your MAC before you
purchase from our website at www.ezstamp.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.ezstamp.com
Another option is a program called Crossover ( at www.codeweavers.com ). It
willlet you run many Win applications
without actually having Windows. AlbumGen runs with Crossover.
Let me know if you have any questions,
regards

A: The version I have runs on Windows only. A check of their web site does not show that it works on MAC. Windows only.

Hi All,

interesting posts.
Couple of points of clarification.

1) Scott will not permit any developer to create a Mobile app using Scott #'s
That also includes a web application.

2) Writing software for mobiles, be they iPhones or Android is a whole different ballgame
and requires a different set of tools & skills. The size of the databases & images is also an issue

The cost/benefit of re-writing years of work to make it run on mobile/mac is just not in the cards yet.
For every MAC user, we have 50 PC users at least.
Emulation for now, is a viable solution for MAC users. Also, since PC Laptops are so inexpensive now,
less that $250 for some models), it's also a great solution
Let me know if you have any questions
Marios

A request for the Moderators.

Over the years, I have used my software to help me with identifying stamps.
I have used EzImage to assist me with weeding out fakes/forgeries.
I can create a video of the process I use & post it here as well as on my you tube channel.
Just not sure it's allowed here, so will ask first.
If this post is not allowed, please delete it for me, as I am not sure

thanks
Marios

Just for the record, there might be a crossed wire in this thread somewhere.

It's worth noting that a MAC computer (OS X operating system) is not the same as an iPad (iOS operating system).

Scott will not authorize any application software using their numbering system. They really do not even want to be publishing the eCatalogs, but really have to have them if they are going to survive. At least they are trying, but although the current version is vastly improved over the first two generations, it is still leaves a lot to be desired. It is unfortunate that their focus is on protecting their copyrights and presenting their data in a century-old format, rather than realizing they can make boatloads of money by embracing the new technology available.

I run EZStamp on my PC, admittedly using about 25% of what it can do and have not updated it in several years (althoughh plan to in early 2016). I generate reports from there, dump them to excel spreadsheets and access them from my iPad at shows. I run the old Scott catalog app as well; stay away from every other stamp app out there, as they are crap. The new Scott app seems a bit improved over the old one, but I prefer the older one at this point.

I have StampManage2015 Deluxe (just updated) and also have the suite of SoftPro2010's EzStamp
software apart from Album Gen 2 (which I plan to purchase in the coming year.) I also have the
software from PSS with databases. I do use them all a great deal and would be lost without them.

I do find EzStamps softwares are really great for my uses, apart from not being able to import
my databases into other Stamp software.

I have an iPad Air 2, and I haven't found a decent app yet. Right now, I'm just using a Google Docs spreadsheet with the Google Spreadsheet app.

Both EZ-Stamp and Stamp Manage use Scott Catalog numnbers. I don't think Scott has an issue with software licensing their numbers, but I think it needs to be desktop sofrware. I know they won't allow use of their numbers in free apps, because they unfairly compete against their commercial partners.

And I know they won't allow use of their number on free cataloging sites, because they consider all of those as competitors to their print cataogs.

FYI: You can buy a program called MY STAMP COLLECTION HD from iTunes. It works on both the iPad and iPhone and cost 99 cents. It is not the most sophisticated program out there by any means, but if you want a quick way to check your holdings while at a stamp show or visiting a dealer, this program might work.
