I use Hawid mounts on some of my collection, haven't purchased any for awhile but bought several sizes recently for a remounting project. I am running into problems with them not adhering to the page. The gum seems to have been much diluted from the formula used before- I apply them and then when dry they pop off when inserting the stamp. Roughly have the mounts I am using do this and I am resorting to supplemental adhesive to get them to stick. Has anyone else noticed this?
I winder if they are trying to address complaints of their mounts not being removable enough? It is a pain and before I shoot off an email to Lighthouse USA (which probably won't be answered) maybe someone else has noticed this and has an idea.

I wonder if it's the same issue we see with slightly older stamps - where the gum loses its stickiness. Some Canada stamps 15-20 years old I have to glue stick them to the envelope. Can you check the best before date on what you have? |

I use Hawid and have had the same issue with a few packs. I don't have any bright ideas. As suggested above, I figured they were simply from an old batch.
Also, I don't ever remember seeing a "best used by" date on stamp mounts but maybe I've been inattentive. There's no such notice on any packs I have here now. |

I had similar experience with older packages of mounts. Maybe it occurs with age. I also use Scott & Prinze and don't have any issues. |

Thanks for posting - I am having similar problems and assumed I did not moisten the back. These were from newly purchased packets, but it's tough to say how long they were sitting in a stock room. |

I don't believe my mounts were old stock. I think the problem was that Hawid is just not putting an adequate amount of adhesive on them any longer. I imagine this may be some attempt to compete with the new self adhesive mounts that can be removed from pages easily. If that was the idea they need to try something else. These do not even stick long enough to place a stamp in them, I leafed through the album I was working on with them a short time later, half of them fell off the pages. Yes I can use a glue stick- and probably will- on those. But why would I continue purchasing them? I think Lighthouse USA distributes them but I have had poor luck in contacting them in the past about issues with products. I could contact the dealer who sold them but that would put them in an awkward situation. |

Reviving this thread, same issue again. Bought some mounts last week and many are not adhering to the page and need supplemental adhesive to do so. They do not seem to be old stock. For whatever reason the problem seems more acute on larger sizes.
Following my last post, I did contact Lighthouse USA who referred me to their home office in Germany. They were hopeless, wanted me to mail them one of the album pages to look at, they never replied when I asked about me paying postage. My guess is they have reduced the gum in their products, probably due to complaints from some users about them not being reusable. |

I think you're safer in any case with a glue stick because of the lack of moisture. |

Yeah that is what I am doing now. It does look like the majority of non sticking mounts are turning up in a pack of 55mm clear strips I just bought. It may just be an anomaly limited to that pack. I'll, just have to remember to use glue stick, I guess. |

I've been using hawid mounts in clear as well as black from a decade long, and haven't found any issues whatsoever till now. As, others have said a glue stick works perfectly well and the mounts adheres to the page in position.
Happy Mounting! |
