Picked this up this past summer. Includes a leather case. Also have a 10X plastic loupe that works pretty well. Pretty low tech. |

Another choice in digital microscope/camera. The Carson digital microscope/camera is a very usable scope. I've been using the Carson MM-640 scope with great success for the past few years. The zoom feature is great when it comes to seeing the smaller details on the Wash/Franklin series of stamps. The image it produces can be brought up on a computer or laptop screen. The Carson MM-640 can be found on ebay starting at a nominal price of $29.00. If you wish something more modern the new Carson MM-740 starts at around $100.00. www.carson.com |

All of this hardware and fancy magnifiers, interesting.
As for me, I use my scanner, which can scan up to 1600px if needed. It gives me the best resolution I could imagine. I have also scanned my perf gauge so I can easily check perfs a well.

I use a smartphone app called Mag light. It's free. It magnifies and has an adjustable light on the phone already built in. |

I use a lighted magnifier ( 2 LEDS) That I got at Whalgreens. Liked it so much that I bought another. I also use a 10x lighted magnifier.
I also had cataract operations. Helped a lot, esp. with seeing color.

ddreisba,
I hope so. I'm having a lens replacement this Thursday, 2/18. Wish me luck.

Jack, Good luck with the operation. I found the actual operation about as painful as a haircut. The bother is waiting a couple of weeks for the eye to heal and stabelize, so you can get new glasses.
May I ask the people who are using 60x magnifiers and electronic gear what you are looking for that you couldn't find with 10x? Does it help you to see watermarks?

I use this gooseneck for hands-free, general magnification, and the 16x loupe, which I've had for about 30 years, for details. I also have a floor model Ottlite, with a magnifier, that I got for Christmas. When I find room in my small room I'll use this too. I would do more scanning but my computer and scanner are not in my stamp room. |
