Don, the surgery was a success. Got Multifocal lenses which enable short and long distance focusing. I haven't worn glasses for over two months now! Its like being young again. Love 'em!

Greatest thing on earth for the more "experienced" collector - LCD Digital Microscopes that can be connected to your PC second screen. There are a number of inexpensive ones on ebay built almost identically in China. Lighthouse and a few name brands are the same as the less expensive generics. Just make sure you order from a seller based in the US or else you'll be waiting a month or two. You won't be sorry for the small outlay. |

Hi Kirk. You must have missed the question Terry asked about a week ago. That was the post I was trying to answer - I guess we crossed posts?

Peter-- I saw it too late. Either way, I was just trying to be funny. I know my humor doesn't always translate in print.
I am the worlds worst to post something (or email someone) and then 5 minutes later catch myself thinking, why hasn't he answered :-) |

Happy Fathers Day,
My dad was a veteran. His eyesight in his later years was minimal. He passed away three years ago. He was my best friend!
He first lost his sight in his left eye forty years ago, due to glaucoma. While in his eighties, his right eye hemorrhaged with wet macular degeneration. He also had a thick cataract in that eye. He lived with that cataract for years not wanting to take a chance with surgery on his only eye. It was removed after the hemorrhaging was stopped.
He lived, and loved life, until three days shy of his ninety-fourth birthday. He loved his stamps. The only thing he hated was taking his water pills.
I will be sixty-one next week. I am on a glaucoma watch. My up close vision is poor. I do use some of these tools.
Because of my father's serious loss of vision, the VA spared no expense to help him. They gave him a computer, with a program called "Guide". That program would magnify anything, read text to him, as well as many other options. He was able to hear or read, many of his own war letters. This "Guide" program has many tools in it for the blind. The VA sent him to New Haven Conn., for six weeks of training. He understood everything they taught him. He was so proud to show me his commuter skills.
They also gave him a tool called "Amigo". It is a hand held unit that has many options. That is an expensive tool.
His scanner, which magnifies to its own monitor is amazing. It will take a common stamp and bring that image to a 6" x 6" image.
If there is interest in any of these tools, I can post model #'s. I see that the Amigo comes up on google for $1695.00. It is portable, AC, and came with two chargeable batteries.
