1-St-3RD Issue Revenue Adjustments In 2016 Scott Specialized

Not a whole lot of movement in R1-R151 or RB1-RB19. The only real trends are that quite a few of the silk papers are up (again), some of the higher-denom imperfs are up, and some corrections on inverted centers, although one downward move is HUGE.

They listed, but didn't price, the R115 imperforate I submitted, but gave it the same letter as the inverted center. I guess they don't believe in proofreading. Also, while they included that one, they did NOT include the R112 imperforate I submitted at the same time. I provided cert and population data on both.

This, the stupid lazy errors, compounded with the continued ignoring of requests and recommendations to overhaul the multiples and plate variety listings has me firmly convinced that Amos couldn't give a rat's ass about revenues. They are just phoning it in.

Then again, we're talking about an organization that still edits its catalog using pencil and paper; why should I be surprised?

Anyway, that's one of my perpetual rants that won't be fixed anytime soon.

(So one 3rd issue invert drops 40% and the other one goes up 25%. Historically, these have been listed in close parity with one another, but now one is almost double the other in value. Huh? Time for some population analysis...)

No moves in the early proprietaries (RB1-RB19).

That's all I've had a chance to look at thus far.

I would be most interesting in seeing how M&Ms fared. I have not been collecting these for long, only a few years, I've seen much more action with these in the last year. Even the less expensive issues, in less than stellar condition, are selling higher than Scott, and much higher than a couple of years ago. Not sure how the higher priced items are doing, which is what Scott is following, I'm sure, but the "everyman" items seem to be getting lots of attention.

Dan, what is your opinion of the movement of silks? I've been picking up quite a few lately, including 3 or 4 each of R64 & 65. I'm a bit surprised dealers aren't looking closer at their stock.

Honestly, I don't feel that the movements make sense. Some of the ones that moved didn't move enough, whereas others were IMO overpriced before the uptick.

For example, R1d should move MUCH higher. R13d and R30d, which didn't move, should be higher than they are. R64d and R65d are overpriced at current levels. They are much more common than the values indicate.

Granted, this is based on a small sample size, but I think R53d is overvalued IMO. I have 5 or 6 of them.

On the other hand, I desperately need an R26d. I cannot find one. It's just about the only priced silk I do not have. I would trade handsomely for a definitely legit example.

In my experience those two inverted centers are about equally scarce, or common if you prefer. Both have been selling at auction for about $350 for some years now, with a really well centered one going for perhaps $400. Both should probably cat about $400.
Hard to get an accurate feel for a lot of silks unless you look for them regularly, most dealers do not and rely on the catalog for prices so they don't change much. Also many that are claimed as silks are not, which also has an effect.
