A very beautiful 1894 world postal cover w/letter. This is an amazing postal cover with a killer cancel: triplex cancel(with shoe print killer) and several other cancels from 2 countries. This is a great colletors postal cover... A gem!

I look forward to any comments. I am still learning on postal covers.

Nice cover. I would call that a duplex cancel as the year date is inside of the CDS. Triplex cancels have the date on the outside between the CDS (circular date stamp) and the barred oval killer. The London postmarks are called hooded cancels.

Interesting cover. Can anyone identify the purpose of the circled '25'? Is this postage due for forwarding the letter to the Continent? (25 pence? Centimes? Seems excessive.)

The "25" is an inspector's mark. Both postmarks on the back are arrival ones i.e. arrived in London 11th August then arrived in Brussels 14th August. The front postmarks are obviously the departure ones i.e. departed USA and departed (forwarded) London.

Thank you, scot. Interesting that there is no indication of a forwarding fee.

Hi Roguegallery1. I am not sure what you mean by "world cover"? Perhaps a better term would be either a transatlantic cover or maybe an international rate cover since it went between two countries (three if you count the forwarding). In any event, I like the nice readable cancelation and back stamps that allow you to track its progress from the sender to the recipient.

Although it is an interesting cover, with the forwarding, it's far from a "gem". It's important to use the correct wording when describing an item or else you run the risk of being ignored by knowledgeable collectors. For a cover to validly be called a gem it needs to either be a very rare or unusual rate, destination or sent by a very famous person, or it needs to be truly excellent quality. With the rough opening, potentially affecting the stamp even, this has too many faults. I'd call it an interesting but average condition cover.
