Probably a coal stove or wood stove in the back left or right corner, so that the smokestack is not visible due to the angle of the photo. Or the stove could have been removed so there is no evidence at this point.

Seems there are a few places that have the smallest Post Office. If you google this, there are alot of images like this one in Big Cypress, Southern Florida.

One website suggests that Old Muddy, IL post office was the smallest post office in the US until it moved in 2002. Here's a little news story about it:

I'm not sure if it should count or not, but this small enclosure is the post office on top of Mt. Washington, New Hampshire. It's in the larger visitor center for the mountain, but it is itty bitty.
