Hi to all This is a normal KGV penny red stamp. Hopefully the photo is good enough. the stamp on the right, has a partial watermark, and it is sideways. I have photographed it with a normal watermark Does this make it rare? Regards Horamakhet

The photo you have provided is not adequate for a rareity such as sideways watermark in a KGV 1d red.
As far as I know only one certified sideways watermark in second watermark exists and if you do not know about it then I can only suggest that you are pulling our chain. If you seriously believe that you have a sideways watermark then you should post it on Stampboards with good high resolution scans of front and rear. Most of the KGV experts visit that board and will give you appropriate advice.
If you do not want to do that then try the Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria based in Melbourne - for a certificate it will cost you about $70 plus registered mail cost both ways.
It will of course have to be subjected to a number of scientific tests which will be at your cost.
But just for readers here can you post a scan of the stamp front and rear. If this is genuine they should see it.

I was not aware of the sideways till this afternoon, when I checked on the internet. I will photograph the front and post it later.

Hi to all,
I think it is Milburn nsw?,or Auburn NSW or Auburn Victoria? I now know the other one was from Leichhardt in NSW, but that does not exclude the possibility that there could have been two sheets.
Also apparently, this is what is known as a marginal copy, (I think that is due to the other straight line watermarks, please correct me if I am wrong.)
Also unlike the other copy, this has no thinning or skinning, It is in pretty good condition.

Looks promising but your scan needs to be at high resolution - at least 600 - and you need to scan the rear also. The postmark could also be Goulburn.
But as I suggested in my previous post, you really need to post this on Stampboards where the experts are. If you do not post it there, you will have difficulty finding the right people to give you educated opinions. There are many knowledgeable KGV collectors on this forum but I believe they would give you the same advice.
It is not my collecting area so it is beyond me to give you an opinion of any value.
I am a member of Stampboards and will be alerting the members there of your post here.

I saw your 1d red with sideways watermark.
It looks like a very exciting and interesting find.
I was involved in the certification of the first (and so far only other one) that was found in 2013.
Please contact me (e-mail me through the Forum e-mail, the system says I am not allowed to send e-mails) and when I have more information I'll get also get Michael Drury involved.
Thanks.

For the record, here is the only other example of the sideways watermark found so far. It is probably difficult to make out the watermark on the dry stamp, but the watermark is pointing the same way in both examples. The original is in far from perfect condition, yet still has a Brusden-White Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue value of $85,000. Scott |

Horamkhet,
Did you have any luck getting a certificate on this? The cancel; looks like a partial Melbourne.

Hi to all
Yes I did get a certificate for the stamp, and yes it is genuine, several authorities viewed it. There was also an article printed in the Australian Stamp Proffessional Magazine by Dr. Scott Starling. It was published in the November-December issue 2015, it has a couple of photos as well. Yes I still have the stamp, but, I will probably sell it to raise capital for home renovations. Regards Horamakhet
