The promised release of the classic album reprint which picks up where the George VI albums leave off- has now been released. At over $600 for a regular set and over $900 for a hingeless set it is definitely not for the casual buyer.

SG is continuing their practice of not showing prospective buyers what their pages look line.

Thank you.

That's a jump in price from the springback version, although that was a mess, not least because SG changed the page size. Odd that they haven't extended beyond 1962 -earlier versions of the New Age went to the late-1960s. Nonetheless, I may have to consider this!

Presumably the ring-bound Imperial will be next. I'm definitely not abandoning my fastbound version of that!

The page for the hingeless has an example of the lay-out - pretty much like the George VI:

GB price for the standard album is £400, compared with £250 for the previous springback. Bearing in mind that it's now six volumes, rather than four, not TOO bad.

Hi Stamps & Geoff,

Does the SG Imperial set include spaces for the GB, Commonwealth & colonies?

IF -- and that's a big "IF" -- SG had released their Imperial album as a ring binder w/hingeless pages for the classics through and up to QEll, I would have been very interested in it. But I am assuming that the set would represent good coverage for the earlier GB + Commonwealth + Colonies.

It's damn hard to tell what GB is selling us when they are so skimpy with photos and descriptive copy. It's like they assume we all already know what the SG products are like and really only require the catalog number and price.

Dan

The New Imperial covers GB, colonies, protectorates (including Egypt and Iraq) etc until the death of George V in 1936. The George VI albums do a similar job for the period to 1952, although my understanding is that the current version of the George VI doesn't include officials and dues.

I'll take a few photos of the New Imperial for you and e-mail them.

Thanks Geoff!

That was my understanding...that SG albums that are named for the monarch's reign cover issues across the entire Commonwealth. That's what makes that album design so attractive. Unless you intend to collect every stamp for a single colony or protectorate, it makes little financial sense to invest in an entire library of individual Commonwealth country albums.
