I recently noticed when I received packages from France and the postage is paid in postage stamps, some of the stamps are in Euros, but some of the stamps are pre-Euros, that is, in French Francs. Are stamps before the Euro came on the scene still usuable? If so, what is the exchange rate for France to Euros?
The countries in the Euro zone where pre-euro stamps are still valid include Belgium, France, Italy, and San Marino. For France, there are exceptions that include semi-postals issued before WWII and others, but in general one just has to convert old francs to new francs for stamps issued in 1960 and earlier.
Staying with the £? Forty-four years later I still resent our moving to decimal currency! The € does make travelling in Western Europe incredibly easy, though.
