This East Germany (DDR) Scott 1145 SS was issued on October 6, 1968 1969
to commemorate 20 years of the "Peoples Paradise" created on
October 7, 1949.

I cannot make out the day on the CDS.
But I believe it's either a 6 or 7.
Any ideas?

Looks like I can see the bar of the '7'! Have you tried looking at it under UV?

Thanks Peter, I'll check it later with my UV lamp.

I doubt if there is a bar across the 7 even if it is
a seven.

Even though it is common practice in Germany & Austria to cross the number 7 when writing,
it is not done in print or on postmarks.

At least from what I've seen.

I am European (Dutch) and I know what you are referring to. That is not what I meant. I meant the bar of the 7, not the crossbar. If I should not call the top bar of the seven a bar, what should I call it? ( I am being serious about this! }

Viewed under a UV (long wave) lamp, I believe there is
a vertical stroke, slightly diagonal and partially curved
which would indicate a 7.

Thanks Pete.

This is weird. I thought the Soviets created the DDR on the 6th. And was this stamp issued the year before the anniversary or is that a typo?

Hahaha. I see where my confusion comes from. In typical Soviet fashion, they announced on the 6th the result of the vote that would take place the next day.

Peter many people call that part of a font the "arm."
