Such difficult news, Don, but thank you for sharing it with us. And such a tragedy that his beloved wife predeceased him so shortly beforehand as well.

Bill was very generous with his knowledge, energy and resources.

"May he rest in peace and rise in glory."

Awful news. While I am still very green in terms of philately, Bill's name was one that carried much reverence around this board and other media.

Sad news, but it explains why he did not attend shows for the last 18 months and why he suddenly retired.

Very sorry to hear this. He gave a lot to the philatelic community, and his posts on SCF were always read-worthy. My condolences to the family.

Bill will be missed. We taught the Bank Note and Expertizing Courses at the APS Summer Seminar, also with Irv Miller in Expertizing. It was Bill who started the process and encouraged and prodded me to pull the course material together. Without him, neither course would have been presented. He was able to augment the basic presentation as, in his own words, "the color man". He also was able to answer just about any question and keep us focused and on track.

Being newly returned to collecting, I had not had the pleasure of meeting or dealing with Mr. Weiss except for, following the advice of some folks in this forum, ordering from him a CD with Paul Schmid's tome on Washington Franklin issues, which he of course promptly delivered. That was just a few months ago just before he retired, so I'm taken aback on the sad news of his passing. Condolences to his friends and family, and may he rest in peace.
