I have aquired a substantial collection of West Virginia Covers, most 19th Century. Is anyone familiar with the catalog that lists the post offices and cancellations. I know that many of these may be rare from very small towns and I do not want to list them until I have more knowledge of their value.

Check out covercrazy2 on ebay. She is a postal history dealer with a very strong stock. Also check out postal history.com. Jim Forte is another very strong postal history dealer plus his website has a listing of US post offices.

However, small town does not necessarily mean rare or in demand. I don't know of a West Virginia Postal History Society which may indicate that there is not a strong collector base for that state.

There is also the U.S. Classics Philatelic Society. They have a number of publications online that you can view or download for free. A few may serve to help. http://www.uspcs.org/resource-cente...nic-library/

There may not be a West Virginia Postal History Society, but from personal experience and sales on ebay's, there is a demand for these covers. It may not be based on postmarks and stamps alone, but also pay attention to the sender and receiver. If there's letters inside that's a bonus. Some people have an interest in postal history beyond the philatelic realm and collect them for their genealogical interests and/or part of a town/country historical interests.
