I assume this is a baggage tag? Does anyone know if 'excess value' stamps used for excess weight or excess value? Any additional input would be greatly appreciated. Don
Grrr for some reason the SCF image uploader has hosed several of the images I upload into different threads! Apparently it does not handle it when you use the same file name, even if it is different threads! Grrrr. I deleted many of them and will now have to go back and rescan them all! Don
Edit; Ok, I uploaded the image to my own web site. I will refrain from using the silly SCF uploader since it overwrites files without any warning dialog box.
Don, these stamps were used for excess value, though I can easily imagine some clerk attaching them for excess weight. Paying for excess value was good insurance for a trip like this one.
Although not wholly germane to the subject of this topic, jim6092252, has mentioned the upholstery and mattress tags with state revenue stamps attached. The text reads DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW or something close to that. I have a substantial number of those tags in my collection (without the upholstered furniture or mattresses!). When consulted, the law states that when an item is for sale, the tags must be attached. But as soon as the item has been purchased and placed in use in one's home, the tag may be lawfully removed. Phew! I am not on the list of law-breakers that the upholstery police are hunting.
