Just sharing a badly centered common stamp. I don't have many of these on document. I like that the stamp is canceled by the writer of the note.

They usually were when hand written by the taxpayer, he/she was liable for the tax anyway. If the document was created in a professional office, then a clerk or the professional involved might sign it.

Ok, that of course makes sense. So really, this is a very common way to see these used on a receipt.

Thirteen days later the tax on receipts ended. The receipt tax expired the end of September, 1870.
