I'm going to send out xmas postcards this year and was hoping I missed a 1c holiday stamp that isn't too expensive to buy.

As far as I know, there's never been a US Christmas-themed stamp for that denomination. (I'm relying on a faulty memory now, but the first US Christmas stamps were either 4 or 5 cents.)

However, you may be in luck. I ^think^ you can buy postage of any denomination at the APC machine, hopefully in the lobby of a post office near you. And, I understand that there's a Peanuts label available this season on which the postage is printed.

I haven't done this yet this year, so perhaps there are some limitations on doing it, such as a minimum amount for the postage. But if it's possible, then what you've described would make a very nice philatelic card!

The 4 cent candle and wreath was the first Christmas stamp from the U.S.

If you really want to make your recipients think, put on Scott 859, the Washington Irving 1 cent. This author was famous for many books (Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Rip Van Winkle), but also wrote a book, "Old Christmas". There is a website where almost everything can be found about Mr. Irving:

Of course, in the same series there is Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Scott 864, who wrote a poem entitled, "Christmas Bells".

Well, the Tiffany lamp pictured on the current 1 cent stamp would qualify as something I'd want for Christmas.

I guess I'll go with the 1205 if I can find them at a reasonable price which I'm sure I can.
